Panasonic S1 amazing
When I was comparing the 50" S1 version to other LCD TVs at Sears the Pana S1 whites looked less bright. But the S1 and the LCD TVs had the same contrast ratios, so I finally asked the salesman if he could turn up the contrast on the S1, when he did it looked just like the LCDs, which had white whites but other colors were washed out (they were really too bright, but I think that is how they are getting people to buy them). So I got the Pana 65" TC-P65S1 from Amazon and at home it is amazing! Now the factory contrast setting was set to 100% and it was way too bright, with it at 28 it seems to be perfect in a dark room. Got the Pana DMP-BD80K player with it and I am amazed at how well it upconverts DVDs (480p) they look great on this TV from 10', and of course 1080p BDs look amazing! In addition, the Pana S1 can control the Pana BD80 blueray player through the HDMI cable, so you only need the TV remote to control both. And the speakers are actually pretty good. Just remember that to clean the glass dilute dish soap 1/100, and I just used a damp microfiber cloth without soap. Too much soap may be a problem for the excellent anti-reflective coating on the glass. Mounted it on the wall with the Sanus VMPL3-B tilt wall mount others have mentioned, it fit perfect and had all the hardware needed, went into three studs to anchor it. With the tilt brackets (it also comes with low profile brackets) you have just enough room to connect a HDMI cable to the back. Got it through Amazon, the Pilot delivery guys helped unpack it and waited for me to turn it on before having me sign. This TV in the box is heavy, by by its self two guys can lift it without too much problem. :2011-05-02 14:08:38

Bigger Is Better
I have had this plasma display for a week now. Great picture (particularly with blu-ray movies), and an amazing price. Don't be fooled that LCD is better because it appears "brighter". Plasma has a more cinematic feel to it. Think 65 inches is too big? Think again. If you sit at least 8 or 9 feet away when viewing, this display will knock your socks off. To me it makes more sense to go big and get the real benefit of high definition. Just a few years ago a TV like this would cost $15,000+ and not look as good as this unit. Pull the trigger, and get it while the price is right. :2011-05-02 14:08:15

Why did we wait
We've had our Panasonic Viera 65" TV for about four days now. Let me start with the packaging. It is unique and totally consumer-friendly. The box was huge and we stared, mouths open, when the neat gentlemen from Team Wordwide brought it in the house. HOW were we gonna uncrate this very large puppy, we asked ourselves? Well kids, it has plastic inserts - about four of 'em on each lower side of the "lid". You pull them out and simply lift the top off. And there before your eyes is the most beeeauuutiful tv I've ever seen. It wasn't easy lifting it out, mainly because we're older than most of your readers. But we did it and after putting in more effort than needed on setting the TV on the base's "spindles", we VERY CAREFULLY, but grunting and groaning, set it up on the stand. My husband had it set up in about ten minutes. Yeah, he's good at that techie stuff and we exchanged a Panasonic for a Panasonic, but it was THAT easy. The picture is crystal clear, dynamic and the colors are exquisitely brilliant. We sit about 11 feet away from the TV and it's just fine. It's not overwelming at all. And yes, it's true. I'm never leaving the house again except for groceries. And gas to get the groceries. THANK YOU, PANASONIC!! THANK YOU, 6THAVENUE!! THANK YOU, TEAM WORLDWIDE!! :2011-05-02 14:07:56

The TC-65S1 Will Keep You Smiling
I have been researching for over a year to buy a large plasma to replace my 60" Sony rear projection 720p LCD television. The TC-65S1 is the value series of Panasonic's 2009 Plasma line-up. The only other 65" plasma Panasonic currently offers is their top-of-the-line V series at a significant premium. Samsung offers two 63" plasma sets - the PN-63B650 and the more featured laden PN-63B590. The 2010 models are just beginning to be announced. I saw the Samsung PN-63B590 at Best Buy and HH Gregg and liked the picture but was concerned by a loud buzzing issue that apparently affects a small percentage of Samsung's B-series plasmas. I also wanted to buy as large a screen as possible knowing that TV's tend to look smaller once you get used to them. I viewed the TC-65S1 at HH Gregg but bought through Amazon when they offered a 12-month, no interest and no payment promotion. The TV was shipped through CEVA and they delivered on the promise date. I was worried that they would bring a large tractor trailer into my neighborhood, but they had the set on a normal sized delivery van. At my request, the two CEVA guys carried the TV around to the back of my house and put it in my daylight basement. They popped the top off the box and plugged the set in to make sure it turned on before they left. It was a painless process. With the help of my wife and daughter, I removed the TV from the lower portion of its box, attached the pedestal stand and put the whole unit on a OmniMount G362 60" Stellar TV stand that I also purchased through Amazon. The top shelf of the OmniMount G362 stand is rated for 250 lbs. so it is plenty stout enough for the 65" Panasonic. I got the stand in gloss black which matches the overall look of the TV. Out-of-the-box, the picture quality was very good. It looked much better in my home than it had looked when I viewed it in the store. I think most people will be able to find a pleasing picture after adjusting the picture pre-sets and the controls in the user menu. This TV does not have as many picture adjustments as its big brother, the TC-65V10, but it also costs [...] less. For movie watching, I have the sound running through my home theater system, but for regular TV watching, I just use the built-in speakers in the TC-65S1. The TV speakers sounds OK to me. The knock on this TV in the enthusiast forums is that the picture pushes green. I knew that going into this purchase, but to be honest, I thought my set looked pretty good with the factory settings. I followed the plasma break-in and calibration advice from various threads on the AVS Forums [...] and actually improved the picture by making tweaks the service menus. The AVS Forums are a great resource for all your audio and video needs. There are no perfect televisions. All makes, models, and display technologies compromise on one thing or another. The TC-65S1 is a great value because at 65 inches it is big enough to give you an immersive movie or sports experience, it throws a great picture right out-of-the-box, it is a popular model so there is a ton of information about it including calibration tips and service menu tweaks on the AVS Forum, and it can be had for less than [...]. Is it the perfect televison? No, but until they make one, the TC-65S1 will keep you smiling. :2011-05-02 14:07:37

Highly, Highly Recommended
I placed my ordered on Amazon.com itself (not an Amazon partner) on Wednesday, which was about a week-and-a-half ago. I received a call on Friday morning to schedule delivery. They asked if I was available the next day, Saturday, between 10 and 2! I couldn't believe they got me a delivery slot so quickly and I grabbed it. The next morning, two delivery guys showed up at 10:05 AM. They took the set out of the box, assembled the base for me and set it up on the TV stand I had ready. They waited while I tested the set to make sure it turned on, then signed me off. They were very professional and helpful, and were done in about 15 minutes. The set itself is phenomenal. I've owned a Toshiba CRT RPTV the past five years and the performance from this "budget" plasma is ridiculously beyond my wildest expectations. I would describe myself as technically savvy and I'm very picky about these kinds of things. It has a wonderfully sharp, bright, smooth picture that an LCD can't touch. I honestly cannot imagine how much better a picture I could get on any other TV -- it's really about as perfect as is possible for anything to be in this world. There are honestly zero issues with this set. No buzzing, ergonomic or reflection issues at all. On a scale of ten, I give this set a ten+. Honestly, I could not be happier with either the set or Amazon's tremendous service and value. :2011-05-02 14:07:17

Plasma never looked better
To put my review in perspective, I work for a major Hollywood studio and am pretty much a high quality freak when it comes to watching movies. I have about 500 DVDs at home, 150 of those are bluray. I upgraded from a very decent 58" DLP so I really wanted something that wasn't just big, but also had great quality. I did a lot of research and frankly when reading through reviews I get the impression many of the positive ones are from people who upgraded from very old TVs and were just impressed that their new one was so much nicer. Not very helpful IMHO. So I went to several stores and looked at anything I could find to get a real overview of what is the standard today rather than comparing it to my 3 year old TV. After weeks I finally ordered this unit and was still a little worried. Now that's its up on my wall and hooked up to my system I have to say I'm 100% happy! The image quality is stunning, crisp and shows every little detail you can get from a good bluray disk. Slow and subtle motion is smooth and fast action has no artifacts. When using a PS3 (which does a great job upconverting) even standard DVDs look pretty good. I'm not saying this is the best screen on the market, but let's be fair and consider the size and the price. I don't think you can find a better quality 65" screen for this price. Another aspect I was a little worried about was the noise from the 4 vans on the back, but they run at such low rpm that you will not hear them. That used to be a big issue on my old DLP. Reflection on screen from a lit room is also limited. I expected this to be more of an issue and again, I was positively surprised how little reflection is visible. The stand that comes with it works great, but most people will hang it on the wall. The weight is not too crazy. I expected it to be much heaver considering the size. I can highly recommend this wall mount: http://www.amazon.com/Sanus-VMPL3-B-Mount-Displays-Black/dp/B0008GP880/ref=pd_sim_e_63 I won't go over all the technical data and inputs, you can look all that up on Panasonic's web site. I just want to mention that I really like that the third HDMI input is conveniently placed on the side along with a standard video input and the SD card slot. That makes it easy to hook a video camera up or watch some photos. I highly recommend this TV if you want a good size but still don't want to spend too much money. :2011-05-02 14:06:58

The Best Plasma TV Out there
I bought this TV on August 30 and got it delivered on Sept 10. It's a big set that needs to be delivered on trucks, not UPS. The seller communicates via email to update the status of your order. A day before the delivery date, the truck guys will call and confirm the hours, typically a four-hour window for them to show up. Now, there is something that I think a prospective buyer wants to keep in mind. TV of this size is not easily transported. So it's the policy of the vendor, and probably industry-wide (because I've checked several vendors and that they all said the same thing), that you CAN'T RETURN IT if you don't fell like it. In other word, don't just buy it because you just want to check it out. The vendor will take it back if and only if it is 1) defective or 2) broken. So it's crucial that once it's delivered and while the delivery guys are still there, please open it up. Plug it in and make sure it work. In other word, do a thorough inspection. Because once these guys leave, you pretty much own it for good. Now, comes the TV. This is a great set par none for its price. A quick walk through your local Best Buy will tell you that. I've seen TV's a lot smaller and much less sophisticated got sold for prices very close to this set's. Some of those are not very well known brands. The TV is not that heavy at all. The listing weight, according to Amazon is 175 shipping and 145, is not correct. Although I don't know its shipping weight, the set itself is 90 lbs (yeah..this isn't a typo). I'm a fairly small guy (5'7) and my brother's (5'8), and we both were able to pick it up and set it on the console without breaking a sweat. The hookup is straight forward. Just find the right connection and plug it in. Very much self-explanatory. The remote doesn't look that intimidating either. I mean if you've played around w/ electronic equipments, you don't need to read the manual. Play around w/ a few keys and you'll get it. It's realllyyyyyy simpleeeee. I had mine hooked up to Direct TV w/ the premium package (Football package). So I'm able to watch fairly large number of HD channels. And ...yes....it is............awesome..yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh... As with plasma TV, I'm sure we all know that it should be in a dark room because plasma screens tend to reflect light. Mine is a bit close to the window. Although I try to shut down all the blinds when I watch football on Sundays, a tiny bit of reflection is still visible. The best show is at night. Dim the lights and you will be amazed at its clarity. As for the speakers, don't bother. You're not buying this TV for its speakers. So why even bother to turn it on? All TV speakers sucks. Period. If you were willing to spend this much dough on a TV, do yourself a favor. Go big w/ speakers. Speakers nowaday are relatively cheap. You can easily get a decent pair of speakers for a couple hundred dollars. I currently have mine set up w/ the Yamaha speaker bar. It's not the best, but decent enough for both regular TV reviewing and some action movies. The real nirvana will come when I save enough $$$ for a pair of Martin Logan. Go ahead & Buy it. I guarantee you won't regret. Be sure to buy it from Amazon. Their service is great. :2011-05-02 14:06:39

Just one word ... WOW!
I have had this 65 inch plasma since 10/1/2009. So far everything has been outstanding, from the great price I got at the time and the white glove delivery service. They set up the TV in my media room, hooked it up, turned it on and WOW! My TV is installed in a windowless room, and the picture is out of this world. I see absolutely no reason to have it professionally calibrated as the picture is outstanding. The picture is more than bright enough, even in a well lit room, if you need to up the brightness and contrast. There are no reflections, but then again I watch with no lights on ... the 65 inch screen provides enough light. I am glad I went with the 65 inch model ... my other choice was the 58V model ... and I am glad I went with the 65S model. The picture is breathtaking ... almost 3D at times. Great depth ... great and viberant colors, and the picture clarity is awesome with high definition input. With my Cable, the HD channels are awe inspiring, and I am glad there are a lot of them as the standard definition channels are no match to them, and after watching hours of HD channels I don't even want to watch the standard channels anymore. So far no problems with the set, and I am 100% satisfied with the TV, Amazon, the price I paid, and the delivery. All in all a truely wonderful experience. My room size is 16 foot by 19 foot with 10 foot ceilings, and I currently sit about 14 feet away from the screen. Anything less than 65 inches would have disappointed me. Don't worry about 65 inches being too big in a room this size, it isn't. And don't worry about professional calibration services as I see absolutely nothing wrong with the picture. :2011-05-02 14:06:20

Best value on the market
I looked at this set and the TC-P65V10 in Best Buy before I purchased it here. Using the same input I could not tell more that a tiny marginal difference in the V10's 96hz 24p feature and this set without. I also looked at the 60" KURO and while it did look better calibrated, it was not worth the more than "double the price" premium. I could tell a difference in the price though and back in my in home all I can say is, "WOW what a picture". This performance available at this Amazon price point is the value of the year in television IMHO. I bought the new TC-P54G10 in early September and also have a 720P 50" TH-50PX80U model. While the TC-P65S1 Panasonic does not have THX, I was not as impressed with the THX settings as I thought I would be and prefer to use the custom settings. In my opinion this is still by far the best picture of the three sets I own. It shares the same Neo-PDP glass as the 54G10 but at 65" the 1080 ability really shows through. Even at the 54" size I cannot tell the difference with the 720 sets but this 65S1 shines like a star. I watched the Thursday night college football game on ESPNHD and spent more time being amazed at the picture than at the game and it was a darn good game. This set is in a big room, 19' x 26', 12" ceiling with lots of glass windows behind it and sliding doors. The anti glare works well, really great. They need to add the ability to use Netflix right from the set and add more picture control ability for fine tuning and calibration of the picture. Panasonic really knows their stuff. I can't wait until they come out with a 100" or better Plasma that folks who are not a Rap-Star can afford. Don't hesitate to purchase :2011-05-02 14:06:01
