No dead pixels. Had a small bit of trouble with the base, but followed the directions and pushed hard and the monitor popped into the base -- it's kind of a ball-and-socket joint. Performance-wise, it's great for my uses (casual computing, web surfing - no hard core gaming, so I can't judge there). :2011-12-18 12:56:08 Samsung 2233BW base installation   The base is relatively easy to install if done correctly. Unfortunately the instructions are of little help. After three of us weighing over 200 pounds couldn't get the sucker to engage after seven or eight failed efforts I examined the rubber/metal socket in the monitor base and saw it was beat up, mashed, and bent from our failed efforts. I finally decided to turn the insert around with the triangle facing the front of the monitor since we had no success the other way. It looks symetrical but it isn't. When I turned the insert around pushed with moderate pressure straight down it went right in. I was able to easily remove it and reinstall again with one hand. So, turn the monitor upside down with the screen facing you and put a LITTLE water and soap mixture on the insert or rubber ring, not too much or it will run inside, and push straight down on the insert. It must go straight in. You can not put one side in and then the other because it sits on top of the metal tabs on each side of the rubber lined socket. Attach the round base with the two protruding pins engage in the two holes on the mating piece; tighten the screw and your are done. I will say the case is very strong because we easily put more than 275 pounds of force on the base trying to engage it backwards. Now to turn it on to see if it works. I have two other Samsung monitors and they are great. I'm sure this one will be to. :2011-12-18 12:55:55 Best Monitor I Have Ever Owned   I asked for this monitor for Christmas of '08 and I still love it. I did Alot of reasearch and real world test for monitors before deciding on this one. Not only does it have a superb picture, but the overall design is just right. Not too much flare, very sleek. I did encounter one problem that I already knew about by reading other reviews, the oval shaped joint shown in one of the pics. It can be very hard to get on! This may sound a bit funny but it is a perfect working solution, a little WD 40, Vaseline, mechanical joint grease, gear grease....., you get the idea. I used a very small amount and it took one good firm push, and the joint snaps right in. This has not effected my monitor in any way in over 10 months now, it stays right where I position it in a sturdy manner. Now to the good stuff. The picture on this beast is amazing! I've owned and come across many monitors by countless companies and this is still my favorite. The only possible improvement would be this exact monitor but bigger. Software & driver install was simple and easy. Most changes can be done by the buttons on the side & by using the Samsung software. When you first setup the software there is a wizard you can use to calibrate the monitor. It comes with MagicBright MagicWizard & MagicTune with AssetManagement, & Natural Color Pro software. You can choose one of the many presets for your picture, or you can customize the hell out of it, all up to you. Games I've played look Fantastic. Games like Lineage 2, Exteel, D&D Online games, and now Aion, the great picture helps you really enjoy the game. Movies look great too. Windows 7 looks freaking awesome on this and gaming in Win 7 so far is sweettttt. My next monitor and my next HDTV will both be Samsung. :2011-12-18 12:55:42 GREAT Service   The refurbished monitor I originally purchased had some "issues". I contacted the seller and was provided with another unit, despite the fact that their tech support found nothing wrong with the original monitor. They provided the second monitor "as a courtesy". We just upgraded my fiance's computer and I wanted to get her a monitor to match and all I can say is that we were both floored by the picture quality. Shipping took 3 days with the free super savings and all it all a very nice experience :2011-12-18 12:55:17 Don't let the Stand Install issues sway your decision   I wanted to address the big negative issue that seems to bear its head in virtually all reviews for this LCD Monitor. I'll leave the technical and graphical performance to other reviews. (But I am very happy with it!) I added several photos to the collection for this monitor to show some things I will describe. (You should be able to see them above) To begin, the shipment box is not nearly as large as I expected, and comes within no other (unmarked) box! If this is a gift, send it somewhere where the gift recipient will not see the package. (Photo) Besides the Monitor and Stand parts, the package contains a Quick Step Guide, Warranty Card, CD-R Software (User's Guide / Drivers), A Power Cord, DVI Cord, VGA Cord, Cable Holding Ring, and Cleaning Cloth. (Photo) After unpacking, the assembly of the base stand to the monitor is where things begin to give many people problems. It is unfortunate that I hesitated to buy this monitor simply because of the negative comments regarding this evidently painstaking process. Obviously I got over the fear, and took the plunge. Jumping to conclusions, the assembly is not really as difficult as I was expecting! I was honestly ready for a battle with this monitor! Prepared with Extra Virgin Olive Oil to lube the "socket", and some workout attire I went one-on-one, and won the battle with ease! (5 Seconds at Most!) The combination of placing the monitor screen upside down on a solid and firm, but non-abrasive surface (carpet), and a very tiny dab of olive oil rubbed along the rubberized socket of the monitor, the football shaped ball socket joint of the base snapped in relatively easy! (See Photos) Note that the actual base itself even comes in 2 parts... On the contrary to what the Quick Setup Guide shows, assemble those two pieces together AFTER you have snapped the socket portion into the monitor! MUCH EASIER!!! Now that I know the quality is good, and realize how easy this is to assemble, armed with Extra Virgin Olive Oil, I will be buying 2 more very soon to complete my 3-monitor array for one of my computer systems! :2011-12-18 12:55:04 True Colors Shining Through   This monitor is big enough for anyone with limited visual problems. True colors and clear sharp picture. Easy controls on the side of the screen. Turns on quickly without lag as some monitors do. It is light enough to move anywhere on the desk but secure enough not to be knocked over. The price is wonderful and the delivery was fast. The monitor was delivered safely and right to my door. I used the free shipping method and it was delivered in two days. This was an amazing experience from delivery to viewing. The Set-up is easy and the computer linked with the monitor immediately. There was no need for the info CD.
